Job DescriptionThe intern is responsible for accomplishing daily tasks that are required for the sales, production, logistics, controller, and staffing departments to run efficiently. Tasks include: updating venue information, organizing inquiries in the tracker, running errands to mail surveys and purchase decor, order office supplies every other week, organizing the storage closet, labeling folders for event files, posting social media images, attending weekly sales and production meetings, venue site visits, and attending events. Interns should take notes during office meetings to absorb specific details about upcoming events and changes to any company procedures that could make business more effective. During site visits it is important to note the layout, and diagrams should be provided to ensure the placement of equipment and decor. Most site visits include the client, event producer, and venue manager to run through the timeline and add any final changes. During events, interns should follow the coordinators' lead to assist in any tasks that will create the best flowing event.

OpportunitiesMost candidates who intern for A Fare Extraordinaire live in or around the Houston area, so room and board has not been provided in the past. The internship is also an unpaid position, but they offer to reimburse interns for gas used on errand trips. Interning for AFE prepares young adults for the event planning and catering industry as it provides insight towards the processes of event proposals, site visits, client meetings, sales meetings, food and drink tastings, and day-of event set up, timeline, and break down. In addition to learning specific details involved in event planning, it is a great networking experience. At the end of the internship, interns will have more knowledge about the various venues, rental companies, florists, caterers, types of glassware and flatware, and the equipment used at events in and around the Houston area. A Fare Extraordinaire is a highly professional workplace where everyone has the ability to grow personally and organizationally. There have been several instances where AFE has hired internally; even today's owner, Rachael Volz, started out as the receptionist.
